JOB OPENING: Artistic Director

ArtWorks is a nonprofit organization that empowers youth through professional opportunities in the arts.

We have created over 350 public art murals with youth throughout King County since our founding in 1995.

We are seeking an artistic director for our public art programming.  This program provides employment training and artistic experience for at risk and adjudicated youth in King County, while also providing service opportunities for volunteer youth and adults.

The successful candidate will:

• have experience in arts education, particularly with teens
• have the demonstrated ability to work with a diverse, multi-cultural population
• have the artistic ability to design and implement high quality public art murals
• ensure that adjudicated and at risk youth in our programming are skillfully educated in basic art concepts; are given meaningful employment support and training; and are mentored in a respectful and supportive environment
• collaborate with the King County Juvenile Probation Service’s Employment Program through regular communication (both formal and informal), timely and thorough submission of necessary paperwork, and planning and recruitment support
• create and maintain excellent working relationships with partner agencies, clients, volunteers and supporters
• bring experience working with clients to design and conceptualize public art projects, including approval process of submitted designs
• have experience working with adult and youth volunteers, including scheduling meaningful volunteer experiences that support our mission
• the ability to supervise and collaborate with lead artists and artist mentors who provide leadership for specific mural creation programs, both in the studio and in the field
• ensure that all public art project are of the highest quality, completed on time, and to the client’s satisfaction.

The Artistic Director reports to the Executive Director.  This is a full time position, with medical and vacation benefits.  ArtWorks is an EOE employer.
