ABOUT ARTWORKS / IDEOLOGY

Mission
Urban ArtWorks empowers young people through professional opportunities in the arts.  By providing subsidized employment, volunteer, and entrepreneurial experiences, we improve young lives as well as the surrounding community.

Vision
ArtWorks aims to create a safe and liberated zone providing opportunities for positive expression, technical skill advancement, and quality job opportunities and training for youth.  Through this work we hope to see positive changes in our participants including the gaining of a sense of community, team work, self-confidence, and employability.  The ultimate goal through this growth is to provide steps towards  self-sufficiency.

We continue working towards outreach throughout all Seattle neighborhoods and seek public art clients with particular concern for in schools, parks, and community centers.  We serve youth from all different backgrounds with a specific focus on “at-risk” and “disadvantaged” youth including those that are high school dropouts, immigrants, foster and low-income youth among other identifiers.  Outreach to kids and groups throughout Seattle and surrounding neighborhoods is key to our goal of effecting as many young lives as possible while providing quality training and creative opportunities.

We seek to collaborate and partner with other organizations doing similar work in order to share resources and build a greater sense of community.
