Quilt Mural Now Installed on Pacific Fabrics Building In SODO

Filed under: Events — Urban ArtWorks @ 3:31 pm

Our newest youth created mural has been recently installed on the back of the Pacific Fabrics building in the SODO area of Seattle. The mural faces the bus corridor, and will brighten the day of thousands of commuters in the coming years.

This quilt themed mural was designed and created by the youth in our winter after school program. The youth explored the rich tradition of American quilts, particularly pictorial quilts, then combined their talents to design a quilt themed mural. The completed mural features both self portraits and portraits of people that the youth admire. The mural was funded in part by a City of Seattle Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs Youth Arts Grant. Additional funding was provided by the Boeing Company and 4Culture Sustained Support. We are grateful to Stone Pillar Remodeling, who donated the labor and skill to install the mural, and to Pacific Fabrics and Pacific Iron and Metal for so graciously hosting our newest addition to the art in the bus corridor.

Lead artists on the mural were J. Gordon and Todd Lown.  Our student intern was Johnathan Le.
